Role: Creative Director // Client Partner
Client: Crisis // Raw London
Year: 2019

The client briefed us to create the lead visual identity for their campaign ‘Crisis at Christmas’, one of the biggest fundraising moments of the year for this charity. They wanted us to explore the societal nature of the problem of homelessness, whilst also making sure to focus in on personal stories – e.g. the heart of effective fundraising strategies.

Our response was to build a rich, multi-layered, world to convey the scale and complexity of homelessness by telling hundreds of personal stories at once. Inspired by the Where’s Wally books and the wimmelbilderbuch, we commissioned illustrator and graphic artist Ilya Milstein, known for his work with The New York Times, to produce the artwork.

Together we developed and produced a flexible format that formed a unified look and feel across all the Crisis Christmas communications – a first for the charity. The primary illustration could be split and repurposed across print, in-store and digital. This complex and appealing illustration was one of their most successful campaign designs to date.
